30 More Camper Van Spots Available

Due to overwhelming demand, we’ve managed to persuade Farmer Philip to squeeze a few more cows in to another field to create more room for camper vans at Standon Calling this summer.

We now have a new camper van field. It’s still near the heart of the festival and has its own water supply and toilets. A maximum of one tent and one awning is allowed next to each camper van. Unfortunately, due to space we can’t allow Winnebagos on site. If you have any questions about camper vans please contact camping@standon-calling.com.

STANDON CALLING 2013
This year Standon Calling is ‘Running Away From The Circus’. Much more than simply a music festival, Standon Calling promises a three-day party, jam-packed with interactive theatre, art installations, a swimming pool, on-site nightclub, annual dog show and the ever-popular fancy dress.

Standon founder says no concrete plans for day tickets

Standon Calling founder Alex Trenchard says there are currently no concrete plans to put day tickets on sale and if they do go on sale they are likely to be in very limited quantities.

“With Weekend Ticket sales up by almost 90% compared to our previous best ever year, we are well on course to selling out the festival and will have to look very hard at how many day tickets we put on sale and if we do at all,” Alex explains.

“We firmly believe the best way to experience Standon Calling is for three days with a weekend ticket. At just £99 it’s not a lot more than some festivals charge for a day ticket. Capacity-wise we’re capped at 5,000 and with that in mind we want to give priority to weekend ticket holders. In the first instance we may put limited numbers on sale. We don’t need to make a decision on this until closer to the festival, but it’s a nice position to be in.”

While some larger festivals are struggling, as Alex told the BBC, festival-goers are, “increasingly looking for that hard-to-find intimacy. It’s about price and quality. The festivals that are doing well offer a unique experience at an affordable price.”

Public Service Broadcasting advise you to pack corduroy

Concept rockers Public Service Broadcasting have an important piece of advice for anyone attending this year’s Standon Calling.

“Make sure you pack your corduroy – what it lacks in waterproof qualities, it makes up for in style and comfort,” say the band, while revealing they’re looking forward to the gig. “If we had to name a favourite county, Hertfordshire would definitely be in the top 5, so we’re very much looking forward to heading on down to the good folks at Standon Calling this sumer.”

PBS’s debut album is out this week so we’re pleased they took time out from their busy promotional schedule to issue some sartorial advice for festival-goers. The album is certainly being well received by the critics. The Guardian gave it four stars and made it their album of the week review. Mojo also gave it four stars while Artrocker went one better proclaiming it their album of the month with a five-star review.

Melé remix Bastille

We love it when artists on our bill collaborate, so we’re excited Melé (recently announced alongside Nina Kraviz and Simian Mobile Disco as part of the Big Top tent’s dance bill), remixed Bastille’s ‘Bad Blood’.

We announced Bastille were returning to Standon Calling for the second time back in February. Since then they’ve had a number one album, topped the online streaming charts and had everyone from your girlfriend to your gran humming along to their tunes. No More Camper Van Slots Available

We’ve sold out our allocation of Camper Van Slots. For those people who are coming in camper vans you have the opportunity to purchase power hook-ups for the weekend for £40. There are a limited amount of power hook-up tickets, which will be available to pre-purchase from next week.

The ticket will provide a supply of 5 Amps.

The supply will be provided from 3pm Friday 2nd until 12:00 on the Monday 5th.

Connection times will be listed clearly in the Camper Van area. There will be two connection times per day.

Electrical supply will be installed by the contractor – if you connect your own supply you forfeit your supply for the entire weekend.

Dance line-up featuring Nina Kraviz, Simian Mobile Disco, Gilles Peterson, DJ Format, Greg Wilson and more

Nina Kraviz, Simian Mobile Disco and DJ Format are set to make their Standon Calling debuts, while Gilles Peterson and Greg Wilson, who closed the festival in 2012, return.

Nina Kraviz and Simian Mobile Disco will headline the Audio Doughuts stage in the Standon Calling Big Top. In fitting with the ‘Running Away From The Circus’ theme, the Big Top will showcase circus acts by day before giving way to DJs by night. Nina Kraviz has had the attention of tech and deep-house aficionados for the best part of a decade, since the release of her debut album, awarded 4/5 by top dance music community, Resident Advisor. Another heavyweight of the electronic world, Simian Mobile Disco’s original material is a staple of both dance and indie club playlists and they have infiltrated the pop world with tracks featuring the likes of Gossip’s Beth Ditto.

From London to Chicago via Leeds, taking in live Afro dub, soul electrica, African-inspired electronica and bass sounds, the Audio Doughnuts stage is brimming with global sounds. Their vibrant offering includes Benin City (live), Roy Davis Jnr + special guest TBA, Mêle, Tuesday Born (live), SOPHIE, Debian Black, Shox and Pusherman.

Meanwhile Count Sizzle’s Whoop Whoop Circus is taking over The Cowshed where people can party until 5am. A firm favourite with festival-goers, the on-site nightclub in a cowshed will be headlined by Gilles Peterson, hip-hop producer and Jurassic 5 collaborator, DJ Format and Greg Wilson, champion of electro-funk and former Hacienda resident. Fast becoming a Standon stalwart, this will be the third time Greg has closed the festival. Also playing The Cowshed will be Natty Bo (Ska Cubano), Count Sizzle himself, Count Skylarkin, Leo Beckford and Cleen Boys.

Fly Through The Festival

Ever fancied flying at a festival? Well, at Standon Calling this year you can thanks to Gorilla Circus. They’re holding a limited amount of Flying Trapeze Classes throughout the weekend that’ll allow you to soar through the Standon skies.

Weekend ticket holders can pre-book 90-minute classes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 15:00-16:30 and 17:00-18:30, for only £30. Within the 90 minutes you will learn to go from the lowest bar to the highest bar you see in the video clip. For the more sensitive stomached attendees each day will also feature two short slots for ‘try and fly’ at £6 each with no pre-booking necessary.

There are a limited number of 90-minute classes available, so book now to avoid disappointment.

Less than 10 camper van spots left

Camper van spots look set to sell out in record time. We currently have less than 10 camper van spaces up for grabs.

Located close to the campsites in the same position as last year, the camper van area is in close proximity to the arena, putting it at the heart of the festival and has its own fresh water supply. Skate ramp, Hullabaloo Arts, Opera Opus and Disco Loco added to Kid’s Area

For the first time ever at Standon Calling we’re building a mini skate ramp near our kids area for kids, teens and beyond to use. There’ll also be demos and workships from top skaters and BMX-ers oer the weekend.

Also new are Hullabaloo Arts who are bringing a huge rocket to the skate area to play in and decorate, alongside their craft activities and workshops.

In the Little Top kid’s area we’ve also added Opera Opus, where Hollie-Anne Clark will entertain children with her spine tingling voice, and Disco Loco, where the kids get to enjoy their very own disco.

The kid’s area is set in a quiet corner of the manor house, close to the swimming pool, which always proves popular with our younger festival-goers. Regular returning actvities in this area include face painting, our legendary craft area (replete with badge making), storytelling, yoga classes, drama workshops, interactive theatre, Maurice’s reggae nursery rhymes and the ever-popular Punch and Judy show. For the younger ones there’s toddler yoga, a ’sensory’ play area and baby massage lessons.
