We’re the only festival we know of to have a dedicated on-site nightclub, which means everyone can take full advantage of our all-night licence.

We’re the only festival we know of to have a dedicated on-site nightclub, which means everyone can take full advantage of our all-night licence. Formerly a cowshed, the club takes on a different guise each year. This time it’s transformed into Camp Alcatraz. You’ll have to see it to believe it. The DJ line-up this year is arguably our best ever. On Friday Fabric resident Tayo who puts on the infamous Tracksuit Parties and “likes dressing up” will boost the bass playing 4/4, dubstep or breakbeat or garage, alongside XFM DJ Eddy Temple-Morris who runs the Remix club and area at Secret Garden Party, ex-Hacienda DJ and author Dave Haslam and our secret weapon, rising star James Delay.

Saturday night sees DJs flying in from all over the place. Ibiza Pukka Up resident Tim Fanucci plays all over the world but Standon is his favourite festival so he’s jetting in for this one. As is queen of the batty bassline Hannah Holland who flies in from Berlin. They’re joined by remixer extraordinaire Radioproof and a crew with a name our art director still has nightmares about. Cantmixwontmixshouldntmixdontmix take the ego out of DJing and the fun out of fitting words on line-up posters.

Sunday night’s festival finale is all about having a good old-fashioned party. Push It Good provides the sort of soundtrack you’d expect at an 80s hip hop house part. Kid Fiesta also play hip hop classics. And funk, and soul and house and disco. Mr & Mrs go down the reggae route while Pete Wheeler & Wellsy supply an infectious blend of disco-inspired electro with an unashamed party element that makes you think they hail from some continental town that spawns bright young Eurotrash rather than Reading.

If this wasn’t enough the Twisted Licks Stage is running its own late-night shenanigans with Pantha Du Prince, Filthy Dukes and StopMakingMe on the Friday and the Greco-Roman Soundsystem extravaganza featuring Gold Panda, Silver Columns, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Edwin Congreave (Foals) on the Saturday. Finally, we shouldn’t forget the swimming pool. Wetsounds is running an underwater disco here with other DJs including Houdini’s Picnic and Topside appearing throughout the weekend.

See you on the dancefloor!

You won’t have to miss a single headliner as we’ve staggered their stage times

You won’t have to miss a single headliner at Standon Calling as we’ve staggered their stage times. Opposite are the final confirmed times, so you can work out exactly what you want to watch over the weekend. On Friday the live music kicks off just before 2pm and as you’ll see the parties go on all night long with DJs in action until the early hours. On Saturday and Sunday the live acts start at midday with the DJs finishing up a littler earlier on the final night of the festival.

We’ve had some last-minute act juggling on the Twisted Licks Stage. These New Puritans are now playing before British Sea Power on Saturday with Fucked Up now headlining on Friday. North Atlantic Oscillation are now playing on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Enjoy arranging you weekend must-sees (and forget about sleeping)!

Come to Standon Calling and walk home with some valuable etchings from artist Alice Llewellyn

Come to Standon Calling for the weekend and you could walk home with a piece of art worth five times the amount your ticket cost. Artist Alice Llewellyn’s latest work involves etched interpretations of five of the most iconic record covers of all times. We have 25 limited-edition prints of these on site and are going to let you steal them as part of a murder mystery game. Over the weekend, the Heritage Arts Company will be recruiting people for the Robber Gang and the Standon Calling Constabulary.

“Being part of a real art theft is going to be a great caper – and the fact you could walk home with a £200 original print will be electric,” says Tim from the Heritage Arts Company. “We’re revisiting the great tradition of good-natured dishonesty and deception – something Alice’s work absolutely suggests.”

Word is that Saturday night is all right for stealing. Baker Street is the backdrop and it now features a constabulary, a private investigator’s darkroom, a tailor, Baker Street railway station, a bank HQ, Sweeney Todd Barbershop’s, and finally, an art gallery.

Interactive murder mysteries, decadent dancing, cult flicks, burlesque life drawing, cut-price haircuts

Interactive murder mysteries, decadent dancing, cult flicks, burlesque life drawing, cut-price haircuts from Sweeney Todd, crime noir fairy tales and a giant lie detector. Crime is taking over our festival site and Baker Street is the hub. Stroll down here and you’ll encounter some surprises.

Like dancing? Why don’t you take some swing lessons with Swing Mon Amour? Like drawing? How about spending the afternoon doodling burlesque models with Dr Sketchy? Like films? Well Lexi on the Run Cinema is screening classic crime movies throughout the weekend, while The Dig will be hosting late-night lock-ins in the same space. Sort of like a sleepover, but with louder music, hipper films and sexier threads. If you’re more into literature, Spoken Ink are hosting night-time Yurt storytelling, while The Book Club Boutique are back with their very own Speakeasy. Committed to “books, booze and boogie woogie” expect dazzling wordplay and the odd shot of illicit hooch. If you want to rock out try our resident Rockaoke band, who’ll will put a backbeat to whatever you fancy belting out.

We’re also offering you the opportunity to steal things. Artist Alice Llewellyn has produced interpretations of 25 iconic record covers and our interactive theatre group Heritage Arts Company want you to help them steal her art. You can then test your dishonesty on William Hunt’s giant lie detector installation.

If after all the long, late nights you’re worried about fest-hair syndrome, fear not: Sweeney Todd won’t just give you a cut-throat shave. Our on-site hair salon will also offer haircuts, hair washes and even hair straightening. And there’s a pie shop next door if you’re hungry after your hair’s cut. And if you can’t quite shake the urge to go shopping after having your hair done, we have a street’s worth of stalls. As well as hosting acoustic sets and signings, Rough Trade will be selling records. If you feel your festival garb is a bit drab visit our on-site tailor, Anna Popovich or get a fancy dress makeover at Bizarre Bazaar before accessorising at Gabby Young’s Gabberdashery shop. And if you’re bored of the whole thing, you can always pick up a good book at Beerwolf Books.

Does all this sound tiring? Well there’s always the swimming pool to refresh and revive (at least when the underwater disco’s not on), but we also have some deep tissue massage, metta reflexology and aromatherapy on offer to soothe furrowed festival brows.

Finally, every festival-goer will receive a free radio. Diesel:U:Music Radio are broadcasting an on-site show throughout the weekend to keep you up to date with what’s happening, as well as ensuring you can catch up on anything you’ve missed (or forgotten) from the night before.

We’ve got our own online radio station. So, if you don’t manage to get a ticket or aren’t at the festival for the entire weekend or even just can’t be bothered to move from your tent, you can still tune into the action. Everyone who comes to the festival receives a free radio to keep up to date with what’s happening.

Read all about The Book Club Boutique's literary line-up

The Book Club Boutique are returning to Standon Calling with their particular brand of ‘books, booze and boogie woogie’ and this year they’re bringing their own speakeasy.

“With a wry, rye whiskey flavour of gangsters, New York speakeasys and a Bonnie and Clyde theme, prohibition has never been sexier,” says BCB host and curator, Salena Godden, of the crime-themed literary programme. She’s recruited a gang of some of the edgiest outsider writers and the wildest underground bands to entertain and rob you blind of any inhibitions

The line-up includes the notorious Sara Stockbridge, Vivienne Westward’s muse, and the author of Hammer. This is a fast-paced and racy read depicting corruption, poverty, harlots and petty thieves in London’s Victorian crime underworld during the 19th century. Actor and author Ray Shell, who shot to fame with Iced, a hardcore tale of crack addiction and crime set in New York in the early nineties, is also reading. So too is Amber Marks. She’s the daughter of the infamous Howard Marks, as well as an author, journalist and criminal barrister. As well as reading from her latest book, she’s also produced some pieces specifically for Standon Calling to spark debate and get the festival-goers thinking.

Most of the readers, performers and musicians are composing stories, poems and songs to tie in with ‘Murder on the Standon Express’ theme. Expect tales of the unexpected, improvisation and late-night collaborations, plys psycho-killer tunes from the BCB’s DJs. On the music side, Trash Money’s rendition of ‘Satan You Lied’ will set the tone. Brighton’s very naughty Pink Narcissus will lower the tone, before Zodiac Mindwarp guitarist, Cobalt Stargazer joins Salena Godden and Max Doray and the Book Club Boutique’s band attempts to blow your minds, the safe and anything else in their path.

THE LINE-UP

AUTHORS AND POETS
Sara Stockbridge; Amber Marks; Ray Shell; Salena Godden; Amah-Rose McKnight; Kate Tempest; Xavier Leret; Oli Spleen; Kim Sherwood; Nikesh Shukla; Stuart Evers; Moldeviant

LIVE MUSIC
The Book Club Boutique Band starring Ms Max Doray and Cobalt Stargazer; Jont; Lisa Lore; Claire Nicolson; Trash Money; Pink Narcissus; Orlando Seale; Kate Daisy Grant; Moustache Man; PLUS Special Guests

DJS
Carbo & Hydrate; DJ Redman; Boris McNabb

FILM AND VISUALS
Sally Dunbar & Kelly Davitt

Wondering how to get to Standon Calling?

With less than four weeks to go you’re probably wondering how best to get to Standon Calling. There’re a few options. From London, the greenest and cheapest choice is probably the Festival Coach service. You can book £28 return tickets from here.

By rail, the closest stations are Bishop’s Stortford or Ware. A cab from either station takes around 15 minutes and costs between £10-15. We have also arranged a regular Shuttle Bus to take you back to Bishop’s Stortford station that leaves the site on Monday between the hours of 10am and 1pm, You can book the £5 service in advance here.

If you’re driving, Standon Lordship is near the village of Standon, just off the A10. The site’s postcode is SG11 1PR. From the A10 follow the event signage. All cars (including artists, guests and press) should take the first exit from the A10 signposted Colliers End. In the village, turn left on to Dowsetts Lane and follow the road for about a mile. You can buy it in advance here.
